The new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina from Nigeria, was officially sworn in on Monday in Abidjan at the bank's headquarters.
"Our collective challenge will be achieving inclusive growth which will pull millions of people out of poverty," Adesina said after being sworn in.
He said he will create opportunities, while unleashing the potential of states, women, youth and the private sector. This, he said, will guarantee growth and development that will be shared by all.
"One of the ways to end poverty and achieve inclusive growth is regional integration," Adesina said.
We need to integrate, grow together and develop jointly, the new AfDB president said, adding that "our collective destiny is linked to removal of barriers that separate us."
Adesina who was elected on May 28, 2015, took over office after his swearing in and becomes the 8th AfDB president at the age of 55 years.
An agricultural specialist, Adesina has held several positions in numerous international agricultural organizations and recently served as Nigeria's agriculture minister. Enditem
