Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang on Wednesday met with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is in Beijing for events marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said China will continue to contribute to the cause of world peace and progress.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nazarbayev agreed on many points during their talks on Monday, creating a strong foundation for future joint work, he said.

The NPC is willing to enhance exchanges and communication with the Parliament of Kazakhstan on state governance and legislation, the legislator said, calling on the two legislative bodies to provide legal guarantees for exchanges in the economy and trade, as well as culture.

Nazarbayev said the Chinese people made a tremendous contribution during World War II, and expressed hope that China and Kazakhstan can cooperate more in politics, trade and security. Endi
