French industrial production rose by 0.4 percent at the end of May after falling 0.8 percent a month earlier, national statistics institute Insee said on Friday.
France also reported improved performance in manufacturing which increased by 0.6 percent compared to a 0.8-percent fall in April and grew by 1.4 percent on a yearly basis.
May's positive trend was driven by a 2.3-percent increase in transport equipment and a 0.8-percent rise in other manufacturing businesses mainly in rubber and plastic activities.
Over the period, coke and refined petroleum products lost ground after falling 2.7 percent because of maintenance shutdown of a refinery, Insee said in its monthly economic report.
Facing a sluggish industrial sector that prompted massive layoffs, the French government wants to inject fresh blood into the wane domestic manufacturing business by focusing on new technologies and innovative sectors, including electric planes and cars and a new generation of high-speed trains.
