5 Australian hostages freed, gunman in critical condition

Xinhua, June 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five people being held hostage and bound in cable ties were dramatically rescued from a Perth home early on Wednesday when police stormed the house they were being held in.

They had been held for several hours by an armed 26-year-old man.

Police were alerted after neighbors heard screams coming from the home in a quiet suburban street.

Police evacuated neighbors and surrounded the house, attempting to negotiate with the gunman.

They eventually stormed the house, local media reported, and two shots were heard as police helped the hand and feet bound hostages out of the house.

The wounded gunman was then dragged from the house and on Wednesday was in hospital in a critical condition.

His reason for taking hostages was unknown.

Police internal investigators are investigating the shooting of the man. Endi
