Uganda's top athletics stars Stephen Kiprotich and Moses Kipsiro will miss the 2015 All Africa Games scheduled to take place in Congo Brazzaville from Sept. 4-19.
Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), told Xinhua on Tuesday that Kiprotich will miss the event because he will need more rest after competing in the IAAF World Championship in Beijing in August, while Kipsiro has failed to beat the qualifying mark.
World and Olympic marathon champion Kiprotich who finished 10th at Mattanic Olomouc Half Marathon last weekend had also missed the 2011 All Africa Games in Mozambique, while Kipsiro won gold in the 5,000m.
Kiprotich won gold at the 2013 World Championships in Russia and bagged gold at the 2012 Olympic Games as well. Kipsiro, who has not been very competitive in the last six months, won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
Otuchet said it is unfortunate for Kipsiro because he has not competed in the local races and some athletes have posted better times than him.
Kipsiro has not been having a good relationship with UAF after he refused to travel for the World Cross-Country Championships in China in March after claiming one of the coaches sent him a life threatening message.
Uganda is expected to send 55 athletes to the 2015 All Africa Games. Endi
