Urgent: 4 killed, dozens injured in Niger protest against Charlie Hebdo

Xinhua, January 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least four people were killed and dozens of others injured in protests over Charlie Hebdo's publication of a cartoon showing the Prophet Mohammed in Niger's second city of Zinder, a government official said Friday.

The country's Interior Minister Massaoudou Hassoumi said a policeman and three civilians have been killed in the demonstrations.

On Jan. 7, three gunmen broke into the premises of Paris-based satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo and killed 12 people, including journalists and policemen.

The attackers said the act was in retaliation to mocking caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad published by the weekly. Endi
