The Swedish government submitted a bill proposing to clarify laws regarding the authority of police in executing deportation and repatriation orders, according to a statement issued on the government's website Thursday.
The Swedish parliamentary ombudsman has questioned whether the law is clear enough when it comes to the police's use of force when implementing deportation orders. The bill is intended to clarify the rules, the statement read.
The proposed legislation also calls for the police authority to be the agency responsible for executing deportation orders unless voluntary repatriation is likely, in which case the case would be handed over to the Migration Agency. The bill also proposes to give the Swedish Security Service the right to confiscate passports in cases of suspected terror crimes, for example.
The new law would go into effect on Nov. 1, 2017, according to the statement. Endit
