Digitization in Austria threatens nine percent of jobs: research institute

The digitization in Austrian economy and at workplace threatened nine percent of jobs in the country, the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) claimed on Wednesday.

In the release of a new study, the IHS said approximate 360,000 jobs under threat would largely include many low-to-medium skilled jobs, among which there were the tasks that could easily be automated.

Unskilled labourers, craft people, and workers in service sectors in particular were considered to be under higher risk.

Conversely, it was noted that more educated a person, less likelihood their work could be automated.

IHS director Martin Kocher thus called for an increased emphasis on training programs specifically designed to tackle this potential problem as best as possible, noting that digitization can also have positive effects on the economy. Endit
