Police presence intensifies in Vienna at Easter markets over security concerns

Xinhua, April 12, 2017 Adjust font size:

The police presence has been strengthened in the Austrian capital of Vienna at Easter markets since Wednesday in light of the attacks in Europe, ORF reported.

The police are to patrol the four large markets in the city, and will be equipped with assault rifles and heavy protective vests.

Smaller markets will be checked by local police as part of their regular patrols.

The city centre will see the installation of bollards in order to prevent truck attacks as seen in other European cities.

Police spokesperson Thomas Keiblinger said the present terror threat within the country is still vague.

While all possible measures are being taken to address a potential attack, he noted there is no 100 percent guarantee of safety. Endit
