JSE trades firmer after Donald Trump's address

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) was firmer at close on Wednesday, as the market digests U.S. President Donald Trump's address to congress.

The local market had closed lower for three consecutive days in the build-up to Trump's address since last Friday.

The all share was up 1.05 percent at 51,682.19 points and the blue-chip top 40 added 1.24 percent. Gold miners dropped 1.75 percent, financials rose 0.61 percent and Platinum was down by 0.92 percent.

Resource-based staged a turnaround, up 2.26 percent.

Diversified miners were all up led by BHB Billiton, which added 3.87 percent to R217.02.

Rand-hedge stocks made gains despite a marginally firmer rand. British American Tobacco was up 0.54 percent to R825.75 and Richemont was up 1.66 percent to R97.12. Endit
