Europe to deploy officer in Africa to monitor migration flows

Xinhua, March 2, 2017 Adjust font size:

Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, on Wednesday said in a statement that it would deploy a liaison officer in Africa to monitor migration flows later this year.

According to the statement, the officer will be stationed in Niger, who will work with national authorities to strengthen cooperation in the fields of border management.

Frontex executive director Fabrice Leggeri met with Nigerien authorities this week in Niger's capital of Niamey to discuss the agency's cooperation with African countries.

"Border control is only part of the solution to the ongoing migration flows and we are looking to establish new channels of cooperation between Frontex and countries in Africa," Leggeri said. Endit
