Nearly 775,000 Swiss lives abroad in 2016: report

A total of 774,923 Swiss nationals were living in foreign countries by the end of last year, up 2.9 percent from 2015, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said Wednesday.
According to FDFA, around 60 percent of Swiss citizens living abroad last year were in Europe.
For the first time, over 200,000 Swiss citizens were registered in France, while just under 90,000 were established in Germany. Both countries border landlocked Switzerland.
A further 80,000 and 50,000 Swiss nationals were living in the United States and Italy respectively.
The continent, which registered the most significant year-on-year increase of Swiss passport holders, was Asia, which saw a 4.3 percent increase.
FDFA indicated that almost 75 percent of Swiss nationals living in foreign countries had at least one other nationality. Endit
