Tokyo shares open higher on upbeat U.S. jobs data

Tokyo shares opened higher Monday on upbeat U.S. jobs data.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 104.64 points, or 0.55 percent, from Friday to 19,022.84.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 11.51 points, or 0.76 percent, to 1,526.50.

Gainers were led by bank, insurance, and fishery, agriculture and forestry issues. Endit
