One person was killed and 10 others got injuries of various severity after a residential building collapsed Tuesday evening in northern Ukraine, authorities said Wednesday.

The ten-storey building came down at around 8:41 p.m. local time (GMT 18:41) in Sumy city following a blast in an apartment on the seventh floor, the State Service for Emergencies said in a statement.

A 65-year-old woman was killed in the blast, two people received serious injuries and were hospitalized, while eight others escaped the accident with minor injuries, the statement said.

The preliminary cause of the explosion, which triggered no fire, was found to be a gas leak. Endit
