Macedonia's newly-elected MPs asked to declare their wealth

Xinhua, January 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

Newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) in Macedonia are duty-bound to submit asset declaration questionnaires and a statement on conflict of interests to the state's corruption prevention commission, local media reported Wednesday.

Such measures are in compliance with the law preventing corruption and conflicts of interest, media said here.

Even MPs whose term expires on Jan. 30 should declare their assets, the commission's chairman Igor Tanturovski told media Wednesday.

He said that most lawmakers had already declared their assets, but warned that MPs who failed to do so would face fines.

Under the law, MPs have 30 days to fill in a questionnaire with detailed information about properties, movable items of value, securities, debts, or other assets in their possession or owned by close family members.

Macedonia parliament was formed on Dec. 31 following the verification of 120 MPs mandates. Enditem
