Xinhua, January 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

The number of detected outbreaks of avian influenza in Bulgaria has risen to 26, affecting 116,308 poultry, the country's Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said in a statement here on Wednesday.

The outbreaks were located in nine provinces, including Vidin, Vratsa, Montana and the Sofia region in northwestern Bulgaria, and Kardzhali, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Yambol in the southern part of the country, the statement said.

Since Dec. 16, the date of the first suspected bird flu case, the number of avian influenza outbreaks in the Balkan country had risen to three on Dec. 19, and 15 on Dec. 30, according to statistics from the BFSA.

In order to control and eradicate the disease, the BFSA has implemented measures such as culling poultry, and has prohibited markets and exhibitions of live poultry and pigs throughout the country. Endit
