Over 2 million German households overburdened in 2015: media report

Xinhua, December 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

More than 2 million households in Germany were in debt in 2015, a latest newspaper report showed.

In 2015, 2.05 million households, meaning 4.17 million people, were considered overburdened, German media Bild cited the report on poverty of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of Germany (BMAS).

However, the figure of overburdened families was still 1.97 million in 2013.

"A trend which has seen a steady increase since 2006 continues," BMAS said in the unpublished report, adding the reason for the indebtedness is growing income poverty.

Although German employees tend to earn more due to good economy, many cannot be able to pay their bills, economic analysts said.

According to the report of Bild, 335,000 people in Germany have no fixed accommodation. More than 80,000 homeless people have been reported in Germany. Endit
