The Polish government will support the video games industry, which is seen as a sector of the future, Science Minister Jaroslaw Gowin said Wednesday.
"We want to modernize Poland, we want to modernize the Polish economy. Our activities are designed to boost the Polish economy's growth rate, particularly in areas where we have the biggest intellectual and creative potential," Gowin said at a ceremony of a government-funded game competition.
The Polish Press Agency reported that under the program, the National Center for Research and Development will spend 116 million zloty (28 million U.S. dollars) to co-finance 38 video games projects.
The largest amount will go to CD Projekt, a Polish developer known for its globally successful "The Witcher" game series, which were based on a novel by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
This company received 9.9 million zloty (2.35 million U.S. dollars) for four of them. Endit
