Malta's GDP up 3 pct in 2016 Q3

Maltese GDP went up by 3 percent in the third quarter of 2016, according to report issued by Malta's National Statistics office on Wednesday.

The report revealing that provisional estimates indicate that the GDP for the third quarter of 2016 amounted to 2.53 billion euros (2.72 billion U.S. dollars).

Malta's government said wages in Malta saw an increase of 177 million euros, marking a 6 percent rise during the first three quarters of 2016. Furthermore, private consumption saw an increase of 3.8 percent in the same period.

Profits from businesses over the first nine months of 2016 also saw an increase of 5.7 percent over the corresponding period in 2015. This increase appears to be in part due to considerable export growth, with an increase of 138 million euros year on year. Enditem
