Jordan calls for more int'l aid to cope with Syrian refugees

Xinhua, November 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan's Prime Minister Hani Mulki said Monday that Jordan needs more international support to cope with Syrian refugees inside the country, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

His remarks came at a meeting with Canada's Governor General David Johnston in the capital Amman, where the prime minister voiced appreciation for Canada's continued support for Jordan.

Mulki said the Jordanian economy cannot bear any more burden, and the kingdom needs support for development in various fields.

He said, however, Jordan is committed to helping Syrian refugees despite all challenges.

On his part, Johnston underscored Jordan's key role in regional stability and security.

He said Canada will continue to work with Jordan in the fields of anti-terrorism, economy and culture.

Jordan is hosting about 1.4 million Syrian refugees. Endit
