Zidane: Ronaldo not over-anxious over lack of goals

Xinhua, October 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said on Friday that Cristiano Ronaldo was not over-anxious because of the lack of goals he has scored in recent games.

Ronaldo scored the last goal in the 6-1 win away to Betis a fortnight ago, but in a season where he has so-far looked below his best, he has failed to score in Madrid' s last two matches, wasting several good chances against Athletic Club Bilbao last weekend.

"I don' t see him over anxious to score, although he may be a bit annoyed at not scoring," said Zidane in his press conference ahead of Saturday' s trip to Vitoria to face Deportivo Alaves.

"He wants to score goals and it is normal that is annoying as he has put the bar so high that when he doesn' t score people are surprised," said the Real Madrid coach, who brushed away worries about defensive weaknesses.

"I am not worried about that, although we are trying to improve some things. We play for 90 minutes and people have to realize that in that time you can concede," explained Zidane.

Real Madrid have only ever lost once away to recently promoted Alaves, but Zidane highlighted that the Basque side are unbeaten at home this season.

"We have to think that it is going to be difficult and we have to maintain our concentration... the players know this and we all know that if we want to win something at the end of the season, we have to do things right every day. If we think it is a game that we are going to win easily, we will be wrong," he insisted.

Finally Zidane spoke about the injured Real Madrid trio; Sergio Ramos, Casemiro and Luka Modric, but said he doubted any of them would play before the international break in the middle of November. Endit
