Vietnamese newspaper's editor-in-chief detained for gambling

Nguyen Thanh Phong, Editor-in-chief of Lao Dong & Xa Hoi (Labor & Society) Newspaper under the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, has been detained for gambling, Hanoi police said on Friday.

According to local investigation agencies, the editor-in-chief's gambling is a serious case, showing the degrade of thought, virtue and lifestyle.

On Friday, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs decided to suspend the post of editor-in-chief of Thanh.

Gambling, except in government licensed casinos, is illegal in Vietnam. Anyone found to be in violation of this law is subject to steep fines and/or a severe prison sentence. Access to licensed casinos is restricted to holders of foreign passports. Enditem
