Russian FM spokeswoman mocks Britain's decision to block RT accounts

Xinhua, October 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Monday mocked London for its decision to block all bank accounts of the Russia Today (RT) TV network in the United Kingdom.

"It seems that leaving the EU, London has left its freedom of speech obligations in Europe," Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page, referring to the decision of the UK to withdraw from the European Union.

Earlier in the day, Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the RT TV, said in her Twitter account that all the broadcasters' accounts in Britain had been blocked and this decision "could not be reversed."

She did not explain the reasons behind the move.

RT TV is a network funded by the Russian government, which operates cable and satellite channels directed at audiences outside of Russia. Endi
