U.S. actor Ethan Hawke named as Donostia Prize winner of San Sebastian Film Festival

American film star Ethan Hawke has been named as one of the people to win a prestigious Donostia Prize at the 64th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, the festival organizers have confirmed.

Hawke will pick up his award on Sept. 17 in the city on the north coast of Spain, which holds its glamorous event every year, with this year's Festival running from Sept. 16 until Sept. 24.

The award will be given to him prior to the screening of his new film, which is a remake of the classic western "The Magnificent Seven".

In the communique announcing his selection, the festival organizers highlighted Hawke has enjoyed an "illustrious Carrera", which has spanned "30 years and four Academy Award nominations," describing him as a "truly multifaceted artist, challenging himself as a screenwriter, director, novelist, and actor of the stage and screen."

The 45-year-old is perhaps best known for his role in the film "Training Day" alongside Denzel Washington, as well as the "Dead Poets Society", and the trilogy, "Before Sunrise", "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight", as well as many other films, while he has also tried his hand at directing and has a successful stage acting career.

It was announced in July that the second recipient of a Donostia Prize will be the actress, Sigourney Weaver. Endit
