Ghana's Paralympic committee appeals for support ahead of Rio games

The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has called for support for Ghana' s disabled athletes who will be competing at the Rio Paralympic Games next month, local media reported Thursday.

The President of the NPC, Cornelius Adjah Coffie, said his outfit was finding it difficult to securing sponsorship for the contingent hence their decision to launch the appeal last Tuesday.

He pleaded with all major corporations, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), to come to their aid. "We hope as they did for the able-bodied athletes, they will do same for us."

"The difficulty in securing sponsorship has had a deterring effect on our preparations for the games, but we hope to acquire support as soon as possible," he said.

Three athletes, namely Alem Mumuni (Paracyclist), Charles Narh Teye (Power-lifter) and Yusif Amadu (High jump), will represent Ghana at the Games which begin on Sept. 7 and ends on Sept. 18.

Both Narh and Alem are fine-tuning in the United States ahead of the games while Amadu is currently training in Ghana with poor facilities.

The Rio Paralympic Games will be Ghana's fourth appearance. Endit
