Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday thanked China for its long-term support for Uganda's development and wished for closer cooperation while meeting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

China is an old friend of Uganda and Africa, who has sided with Africa during the continent's liberation from colonialism and later supported Africa's economic and social development, Museveni said. (Uganda-China-FM)

LISBON -- Wildfires killed three people on Portugal's Madeira island and resulted in an economic loss of at least 55 million euros(61.27 million U.S. dollars), local media quoted an official as saying on Thursday.

Two people were severely injured and 200 people suffered from minor injuries with respiratory and eye problems. Over 1,000 people were evacuated, newspaper Publico reported, quoting Paulo Cafofo, mayor of Madeira capital Funchal. (Portugal-Fire-Damage)

BELGRADE -- Serbia's parliament voted on Tuesday for the election of a new government presided by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

The new government, elected with 163 out of 250 MP votes, consists of ministers from the ruling coalition around Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party and the smaller partner Socialist Party of Serbia Ivica Dacic. (Serbia-New Government)

MOSCOW -- Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday criticized the Ukrainian government for its inaction and provocative moves.

"Russia is seriously concerned about the inaction of Kiev authorities in the face of growing militant rhetoric and violent actions taken and planned by the so-called volunteer battalions and other extremists," the ministry said in a statement. (Russia-Ukraine)

BANGKOK -- Local police confirmed that a Thai was killed and 20 people, including foreign tourists, have been injured after two bombs exploded in Hua Hin just before midnight, Thai media reported.

Thai media Thairath said the police confirmed the lasted number of casualties at about 1:00 am (1800 GMT) Friday, the police also said they have already controlled the situation. (Thailand-Explosion) Endi
