America's Harrison wins back-to-back Olympic judo gold medal

Kayla Harrison from the United States won back-to-back Olympic titles in judo women's 78kg at the Rio Olympic Games here on Thursday.

Harrison cruised into the final, winning all matches ahead of time by ippon. Her final opponent, Audrey Tcheumeo from France, provided more resistance, but with seven seconds to go Harrison caught the Frenchwoman in an arm-lock.

Brazil's Mayra Aguiar and Slovenia's Anamari Velensek took bronze medals in this category.

Lukas Krpalek from Czech Republic won the men's 100kg gold, the country's first Olympic judo medal.

Krpalek, who performed strongly throughout the day, threw Elmar Gasimov from Azerbaijan in the final for ippon to clinch gold.

Cyrille Maret from France and Ryunosuke Haga from Japan claimed bronze medals. Endit
