Australians crash in women's team pursuit cycling training at Rio Olympics

Xinhua, August 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Australian team crashed in training at the Rio Olympic Velodrome here on Monday.

Four riders of the five-member team hit the boards while training at race speed when coming into turn three on the back straight.

According to Australian Olympic officials, team member Melissa Hoskings was transported out of the velodrome in a stretcher and transported to a local hospital for a check-up, while three other riders walked off the track with friction burns and bruises.

Along with 2012 Olympic champion Britain and world champions American team, the Australians are one of the top medal hopefuls for the Olympic Games gold medal in the team pursuit after coming fifth in the world championships earlier this year.

The team pursuit qualifying rounds begin on Thursday in the opening day of track cycling competition at 2016 Rio Olympics. Endit
