MONUSCO promises to support DR Congo's dialogue efforts

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The UN Mission for Stabilization of Congo (MONUSCO) said Wednesday it will support the efforts of Edem Kodjo who was appointed by the African Union as the facilitator of dialogue in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The UN mission's spokesman Felix Prosper Basse said MONUSCO will do everything within its powers to support Kodjo so that he can succeed in his efforts to facilitate the organization of national dialogue.

"The final objective is to have a credible electoral process. MONUSCO will do everything to ensure Kodjo succeeds in the mission given to him by the African Union," Basse said when he addressed the press in Kinshasa.

The facilitator arrived in Kinshasa last week and immediately began consultations with a view of putting in place a committee to prepare for political dialogue convened by DR Congo President Joseph Kabila.

Appointed to the position by AU Commission chairperson Dlamini Zuma, Kodjo who is a former Togolese prime minister, has the role of ensuring political dialogue is held to resolve controversy surrounding the forthcoming elections in DR Congo. Enditem
