Warriors shatter Bulls' record with 73rd win, Curry hits over 400 3s

Xinhua, April 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Golden State Warriors finished their 2015-16 NBA regular season at 73-9 after crushing the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104 on Wednesday, one win more than the previous single-season record (72-10) created by the Chicago Bulls in the 1995-96 season.

Warriors' corner-stone Stephen Curry made 10 three-pointers, with a total of 402 in this season. He finished the night with 46 points.

Before this season, no one had reached the 300-three-pointer landmark in a year. Curry also held the previous record of 286 for 3's in a season, which he set last season.

Curry's 400th three-pointer of the season was from the right corner with 11:16 left in the third quarter. After the shot went down, Curry turned and saluted to the roaring crowd.

Steve Kerr, Warriors' head coach, became the first man to finish the season with at least 72 wins as he was a Bulls player in the 1995-96 season, when they finally got the NBA champions.

League leaders Warriors will open their journey to second consecutive trophy with an encounter with the Houston Rockets, who clinched the Western Conference's last playoffs spot on the final day, in the first round. Seventh-ranked Grizzlies will face the San Antonio Spurs. Endit
