Seven arrested in Spanish operation against "glorifying terrorism"

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spanish Civil Guards confirmed they had arrested seven people on Wednesday as part of an operation aimed at the online "glorification" of terrorism.

The arrests were made in the regions of Catalonia, Murcia, Navarra, the Basque region, Madrid, Valencia and Andalusia, as part of an operation which is a continuation of three previous operations carried out in May and November 2014, and May 2015. In total, the police operation led to over 50 arrests on charges of glorifying terrorism and humiliating the victims of terrorism organizations.

The Civil Guard confirmed that one of those arrested was an 18-year-old in the Valencia region in the east of Spain who is accused of praising jihadist terrorism on social networking sites, according to Spanish public broadcaster RTVE.

Security forces are not just confining their view to jihadist terrorism as several of those detained during the three previous operations were accused of insulting victims of Basque separatist group ETA or calling for attacks against Spanish politicians and members of the Spanish Royal Family. Endit
