New document to detail academic misconduct, punishments

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Ministry of Education has moved to officially outline all acts deemed to be academic misconduct, along with punishments for such behaviors.

The ministry on Wednesday published a draft regulation on the prevention and punishment of academic irregularities on its website for public comment.

According to the draft, academic misconduct can include plagiarism; tampering with others' research achievements; falsifying facts, data, materials or references; as well as violation of signature rules in academic theses.

Ghostwriting will also be punished, according to the draft.

The draft said punishments will include termination of studies, disqualification from academic awards or honors and demotion.

Students found to be guilty of misconduct may have their degrees suspended, refused or revoked

Academic committees at higher learning institutions should organize investigations and ensure objectivity, it said. Endi
