Ten Ugandan students will attend a training program on information and communications technology (ICT) in China, sponsored by tech firm Huawei.
President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday attend a ceremony held for the students before their departure.
"It is my pleasure to flag off these people to go and study computer science in China," Museveni said at the ceremony held at State House Entebbe, some 40 km south of the capital Kampala.
Under the program, dubbed "Huawei Seeds for the Future", the students will attend courses from April 16 to 30 at Huawei's headquarters in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
It is expected to equip the students with knowledge about ICT industry trends and up-to-date tech strategy and products.
The program for Ugandan students was announced by Huawei during Museveni's state visit to China last year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Stanley Chyn, Huawei Uganda managing director, said that from now on, every year at least 10 young people from Uganda would be invited to attend classes at Huawei's training centers around the world.
Huawei launched its training program globally in 2008 for ICT knowledge transfer in countries where it operates. Endit
