The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Sun Baohong, has expressed her delight and satisfaction at the high level of Ghanaian students' knowledge of the Chinese language and culture.

The ambassador gave her impression on Friday at the 15th Chinese Bridge Preliminary Competition for non-Chinese college students organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana in the city of Legon.

Sun believed that, with students' perseverance and teachers' innovation, the Confucius Institute would become a vibrant place for Chinese language learners.

"Through the Chinese Bridge Competition, I have seen for myself the vibrant development of the Chinese language teaching in Ghana, and made friends with Ghanaian people who are bent on learning Chinese language and culture," she said.

The contest is designed to create a platform for foreign Chinese learners to demonstrate their ability, exchange ideas and support their passion for the Chinese language and culture.

This year, the competition in Ghana focused on the "Dreams Enlighten My Future" to test contestants' spoken Chinese ability and knowledge about China.

Fourteen students selected from four universities took part in the competition which was graced by Sun Baohong.

Dorcia Abena Frempong, a student of the University of Ghana emerged top winner after three rounds of contests in writing, speaking, talent show and knowledge quiz.

She guaranteed herself a paid trip to China to take part in the 15th Chinese Bridge Competition and also received a 6-month Confucius Institute Scholarship.

Frempong told Xinhua that she would prepare very well for the final competition in China later this year.

"I am going to work harder and I will try my best to make everybody proud of me,"Frempong said.

The competition is the third of its kind held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana. Enditem
