Number of home burglaries in Germany increases to record high: report

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Home burglary cases in Germany increased by almost 10 percent to a new record high in 2015, German newspaper Die Welt reported on Wednesday based on preliminary annual statistics.

According to German police crime statistics (PKS), which presented the number for 2015 to the newspaper, the number of home burglary cases in Germany reached a record high of 167,136, a significant increase by 9.9 percent compared to the year 2014.

Already in 2014, the police had registered the highest level of the past 15 years, which has risen significantly again, said the report.

The German city of Hamburg and German state of North Rhine-Westphalia accounted for the largest rise, by 20.2 and 18.1 percent respectively.

The German Police Union (DPolG) therefore announced a statement on Wednesday and called for better information-sharing among different German states.

"We urgently need to establish a transnational file processing system, which must be searchable," said DPolG Chairman Rainer Wendt.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere will officially introduced the criminal statistics in May in Berlin, said the report.

When the statistics presented in 2014, he had already stated that he regarded "with concern" that the cases of home burglary have increased in Germany. Endit
