Reda Kriket, the main suspect of a foiled attack arrested on March 24, was officially charged and remanded in custody Wednesday, local media reported.
The arsenal found in Kriket's apartment proved that "an imminent action" was prepared, Le Figaro cited Paris prosecutor Francois Molins as saying Wednesday evening.
In his apartment in Argenteuil in northern suburbs of Paris, police discovered "chemical elements" along with assault rifles, handguns and explosives, including TATP, an explosive often used by fighters of the Islamic State (IS), Molins added.
Molins said the arrest of the 34-year-old French citizen, believed to have joined the IS in Syria, allowed "attacks of extreme gravity" to be avoided.
Kriket was arrested Thursday last week during an anti-terror operation of the French security forces, which, according to Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, enabled France to avoid "a planned attack which was at an advanced stage." Endit
