Spain's home mortgages increase by 10.6 pct in January

The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 10.6 percent in January when compared with the same month in 2015, Spain's Statistical Office (INE) reported on Wednesday.

A total of 23,275 home mortgages were granted to prospective buyers in the first month of the year, the INE said, with an average value of 105,680 euros (119,697 U.S. dollars), 0.2 percent up on the same month in 2015.

The amount of capital loaned rose by 10.8 percent in January year-on-year to surpass the 2.559 billion euros, the INE reported.

Spain's home mortgages have been rising for 20 consecutive months year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the INE also said that Spain's home mortgages rose by 20.2 percent from December to January. (1 euro=1.13 U.S. dollars) Endit
