Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Wednesday that his country stands ready to cooperate actively with the United States in a host of areas.
Lukashenko made the remarks while meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Carpenter is responsible for U.S. affairs related to Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia.
"Some positive changes are in the offing in Belarus's relations with the Western world, with the U.S.," said Lukashenko, hoping that the bilateral ties between Belarus and the United States could continue to be charactered by the positive trends on a new stage. He nevertheless failed to elaborate what exactly the positive changes are.
While stressing Belarus is ready to discuss any problems with Western partners, highlighting trade and economic relations for cooperation with the United States of America in particular, Lukashenko said the Belarusian side is not happy with the NATO's expansion to the East. Endit
