Palestinian official condemns Israel for evicting families of attackers

Xinhua, March 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

A senior Palestinian official on Friday condemned Israel's attempts to pass a new bill to forcefully evict the families of the Palestinians accused of attacking Israelis.

Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, made the remarks in a press statement, describing the Israeli action as a collective punishment for Palestinian civilians.

The statement said the bill approves a long standing illegal policy to allow Israel to exile and relocate Palestinian families from their homes, which violates the Fourth Geneva Convention and the 1907 Hague Regulations.

A bill was formally introduced to the Knesset by Likud minister Yisrael Katz earlier March.

He reportedly hoped the bill would be passed next week.

The bill states that Palestinians who knew about or helped commit "acts of terror" in advance would lose their residency status and be deported. Endit
