France beats Norway 4-1 at women's ice hockey worlds opening

France clinched a 4-1 win against Norway in the opening game in Division 1 Group A of the IIHF women's ice hockey World Championship in Aalborg, Denmark on Friday.

France opened the scoring in 17:34 and totally controlled the game in the second period as they scored another three goals to lead the game 4-0.

Though Norway pulled one point back at 41:40 in the third period, the French finished their first game of the tournament with an easy 4-1 win.

The tournament, now on its 18th edition, takes place at the Gigantium Ice Arena from March 25 to 31.

Teams from Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, Norway and Slovakia will be competing in the seven-day event, which also serves as qualifications for the 2017 competition, and will finalize seeding for the 2018 Winter Olympics qualification.

In other opening matches later on Friday, Slovakia faces Germany and Denmark plays Austria. Endit
