Czech gov't approves program aiding countries afflicted by migration

Xinhua, March 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Czech government on Monday approved a new program of the Interior Ministry that the country will send 100 million crowns (about 4.2 million U.S. dollars) in 2016 in support of the European countries afflicted by the migrant wave, Czech Government Office said in a press release.

The aid has been offered in response to the conclusions of the EU summit on last Thursday and Friday, at which the member states reached an agreement with Turkey on returning migrants and also agreed to intensify the support for the Western Balkans and the eastern and southern Mediterranean countries.

According to Czech Interior Ministry, the program is to help EU countries and other countries in the European neighborhoods who are facing migration pressures. It is also the Czech Republic's contribution to a European solution to the migrant crisis.

Under the program, the first 20 million crowns (about 0.8 million U.S. dollars) will go to material support for the Greek and Macedonian governments. The ministry will gradually propose the division of the remaining 80 million crowns (about 3.3 million U.S. dollars) and the government will approve specific projects and activities. Endit
