American bailed in Kenya over gun possession charges

Xinhua, March 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Kenyan court on Monday freed on bail an American national, accused of illegal possession of firearms.

Richard Rollier appeared before the court in the coastal city of Mombasa and pleaded not guilty.

Anti-terrorism police raided his house in the Mombasa suburb of Nyali on Sunday evening following "a tip-off from the public", and found two stun guns, pepper spray apparatus and a lipstick knife.

Rollier, whose wife is a Kenyan, was in possession of the guns without a certificate, according to police.

He has been ordered to report at anti-terrorism police headquarters every month pending the hearing of the case.

Regional police boss Francis Wanjohi said the government had contacted the U.S. embassy in Nairobi to establish if Rollier was a "undercover detective". Endit
