Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday hailed the Russian and Iranian role in countering terrorism, according to state news agency SANA.
"The supportive stance of friendly countries, mainly Russia and Iran, alongside Syria militarily and politically have effectively contributed in enhancing the steadfastness of the Syrians in the war against terrorism," Assad said during his meeting with the visiting head of Strategic Council on Foreign Relations of Iranian Supreme Leader's Administration Kamal Kharrazi.
The Syrian president also said that the victory of the Syrians in the war on terror will positively reflect on the world.
For his part, Kharrazi said his country's support to Syria is "a steady and strategic policy" of Iran.
Iran and Russia have been the crucial allies of the Syrian government throughout the long-running conflict in Syria.
The Syrian army has made notable gains in recent months, advancing deeper into main rebel strongholds in the northern province of Aleppo and the countryside of the coastal city of Latakia. Endit
