Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday denounced the latest bombing attack in Istanbul, saying terrorism has shown its "ugly face" in a beautiful city.
"Today in this beautiful city terror has shown its ugly face," Zarif said at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Istanbul.
"Allah has mercy on those who lost their lives," the top Iranian envoy said.
The blast that took place hours before in Istiklal Street at the center of Istanbul left five dead, including the attacker, and 36 others injured, among them 13 foreigners from Ireland, Israel, Germany, Iran and Iceland.
The attack came one week after a powerful car bombing rocked Anakra, Turkey's capital, and killed 37 people.
Speaking to reporters along with Zarif, Cavusoglu voiced Ankara's determination to continue its battle against terrorism.
The two ministers also pledged to boost cooperation between their countries in a number of fields ranging from economy to energy and tourism. Endit
