Cote d'Ivoire urges sub-regional countries to unite to defeat terrorism

Cote d'Ivoire President Alassane Ouattara on Monday urged countries in the West Africa sub-region to unite to defeat terrorism.

Ouattara who was speaking on national television, expressed his country's commitment to work alongside the international community to defeat the scourge.

"We shall reinforce our collaboration with sub-regional countries as well as with our international partners to jointly fight terrorism," Ouattara reiterated.

He urged his counterparts not to be fearful, noting that "terrorism should be fought mercilessly."

On Sunday afternoon, three hotels mostly frequented by Westerners, situated in the Grand Bassam seaside resort, were attacked by terrorists.

Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility for the attack which led to the death of at least 18 people. Endit
