Two Israeli soldiers injured in shooting attack on West Bank road

Xinhua, March 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Palestinian gunman shoot and injured two Israeli soldiers on a major Jewish settlement road in the West Bank on Friday night, Israeli authorities said.

A military spokesperson said the shooter opened fire during a routine check on Route 443, west of Ramallah, and then fled the scene. The spokesperson added that Israeli soldiers are conducting "extensive searches in the area for the gunman."

Route 443 has been a site of many Palestinian attacks over the past few months.

The incident was the latest in a six-month-long violence, which includes stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming attacks. At least 180 Palestinians, 28 Israelis, two U.S. citizens, a Sudanese, and an Eritrean were killed in the bloodshed.

Earlier on Friday, a Palestinian youth stabbed and lightly wounded a 29-year-old Israeli in east Jerusalem's Old City before Israeli police arrested him. Endit
