Former senior legislator prosecuted for accepting bribes

Xinhua, February 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bai Enpei, formerly a senior official with China's top legislature, has been prosecuted on charges of accepting bribes.

Anyang People's Procuratorate of central China's Henan Province has completed its investigation into Bai and filed charges with the Anyang Intermediate People's Court, said the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) in a statement on Friday.

Bai allegedly took advantage of his various official posts to seek personal benefits for others and illegally accepted huge amounts of money and materials, according to the indictment.

"The assets and expenditure of Bai and his family significantly exceeded his income. Bai was unable to specify the sources of the assets," it said.

Bai was deputy head of the Environment and Resources Protection Committee of the National People's Congress and secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Qinghai and Yunnan provincial committees, among other posts.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced in Jan. last year that Bai had been dismissed from public office and expelled from the CPC following the commission's investigation into him. Endi
