Pakistan rescues kidnapped ex-Afghan provincial governor: media

Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi, the former governor of western Afghanistan's Herat province, has been rescued by Pakistani police and was handed over to the Afghan consulate in Peshawar on Friday, a local television channel Tolo reported here.

"Former Herat governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi after releasing from kidnappers' clutch was handed over by police to Afghanistan's consulate in Peshawar on Friday morning," Tolo aired in its news bulletin.

Unknown people in Islamabad abducted Wahidi on February 12 and Afghan foreign ministry has urged Pakistan to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped politician. Enditem
