Mainland approves more Taiwanese investment

The Chinese mainland approved 245 projects with investment from Taiwan in January, up 23.1 percent from the same period of 2015, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Friday.

The mainland had 210 million U.S. dollars of actually utilized investment from Taiwan in January, up 18.9 percent year on year, MOC data showed.

As of the end of January, the mainland had approved 95,543 projects funded by Taiwanese companies. Taiwan's investment in the mainland totaled 62.89 billion U.S. dollars.

Trade between the mainland and Taiwan reached 13.16 billion U.S. dollars in January, down 16.7 percent year on year, and accounting for 4.5 percent of the mainland's total trade volume with other countries and regions.

The figure included 3.38 billion U.S. dollars in mainland exports to Taiwan, down 11 percent year on year, and 9.78 billion U.S. dollars in mainland imports from the island, a decrease of 18.5 percent, according to the ministry.

Taiwan is the mainland's seventh-biggest trade partner and fifth-biggest import source. Endi
