Beijing busts over 1,800 drug cases in 2015

Xinhua, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Beijing police busted more than 1,800 drug-related cases in 2015, averaging five cases per day, authorities said Thursday.

More than 11,000 suspects were caught, with about 280 kg of drugs confiscated, according to the Beijing Public Security Bureau.

Beijing police particularly intensified efforts against online drug sales, with an Internet team established. Last year, some 660 online drug-trafficking suspects were apprehended, with about 56 kg of drugs confiscated.

"We incorporated anti-drug content into school materials and host school training sessions against drugs," said an official with the bureau. "We also encourage the public with rewards and social media tools."

Nationwide, Chinese police handled 165,000 drug cases in 2015 and captured 194,000 suspects, according to a report released by the National Narcotics Control Commission. Endi
